CITY TRANSFER TAX - $13.00 per thousand of purchase price.

POINT OF SALE ORDINANCE – Sellers are responsible for providing buyers with a copy of the city of Piedmont’s Disclosure Statement (pursuant to Chapter 17F if the Piedmont City Code), "Home Use and Construction Restrictions in the City of Piedmont". This is available through the Department of Public Works at 420-3050 .

Sidewalk inspection Ordinance - A Sidewalk and Driveway Inspection is required on all properties at the time of sale. There is a $15 fee. In the event that the city determines that a portion of the sidewalk needs to be repaired-replaced, the seller has two options: 1) submit a building permit application for the work or have a c-8 concrete contractor apply for the permit (work must be completed within 6 months) or 2) the city will retain a contractor and perform the required repair at a rate of $8.00 per square foot. SIGN ORDINANCE/RESTRICTIONS -Open House directional signs may be placed on City sidewalks on Sundays from noon to 5:00 p.m. as long as it does not create a safety hazard or impede pedestrians. Signs are allowed on private property as long as they are no larger than four square feet.

SPECIAL STUDY ZONE –Fire Hazard Zone – For more information contact the fire Department at 420-3032.

SPECIAL DISCLOSURE ISSUES - Home Occupation Permits – The City will allow homeowners to use a portion of their residence for certain types of offices or other home occupations and a permit is required. For more information, call the City Clerk’s Office at 420-3040. Piedmont has very specific Rules and Guidelines for homeowners planning any type of exterior remodel or repair. The Design Review Guideline are available through the Building Department – 420-3050. A permit is required to have a Moving Van.

BONDS OR ASSESSMENTS - Municipal Service Tax – based on square footage of the parcel as follows:

                0 to 4,999 sq., ft                    $224                        5,000 to 9,999 sq.ft               $251

                10,000 to 14,999 sq.ft           $291                        15,000 to 20,000 sq.ft           $332

                Over 20,000 sq.ft                  $378

The City Council has the right in any fiscal year to determine that a special tax is necessary for playfield and athletic field maintenance. The City Council is responsible for conducting public hearings on any proposed tax.

RENT CONTROL - None in Piedmont at this time

OTHER INFORMATION- Business License Tax – The Business Tax is based on the gross income of any Real Estate Broker doing business in the City of Piedmont. There is a minimum of $100 or the rate is based on $2.00/thousand of gross. A permit is required for Garage Sales in the city of Piedmont.
